Now, thanks to CEREC, there is! CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It uses computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) – such as CNC milling and 3D printing – to help dentists construct, produce, and insert individual ceramic restorations chairside.

CEREC Basics

Basically, CEREC allows our team at Dental Solutions to create dental restorations like inlays, onlays, crowns, and veneers in just one appointment. We make the restorations from a strong, biocompatible porcelain ceramic material. This translates to less time in the dental chair (no multiple appointments necessary), no impression trays, and no plastic temporaries!

Not only is the process easier for you, but it also looks and feels much better. CEREC allows us to create ceramic material that matches the color of your teeth and feels like a natural tooth. Traditional materials like gold and amalgam don’t feel as natural, and they stand out against your other teeth. The CEREC-created ceramic materials also hold up much better overtime.

A Typical CEREC Appointment

After one of our dentists has examined your teeth and determined that CEREC is the best treatment for you, we’ll prepare your tooth for restoration, saving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. Then, we’ll use a special camera to take images of the tooth that needs repair. With the help of these images, we’ll use CEREC’s CAD/CAM software to digitally design the ceramic restoration right there in the office. With traditional methods, creating crowns off-site can take weeks. But with CEREC, in just 15 minutes we can create a brand new restoration, bond it to your tooth, and send you out the door!
