At Dental Solutions of Avon/Indy, we understand that visiting a dental office with loud sounds and dental tools can be scary for a child. That’s why we’re dedicated to making sure children feel safe, comfortable, and relaxed in our care. The earlier children get accustomed to the dentist, the easier these visits become. In addition to the extra steps we take at our office, there are also some things you can do at home to prepare your child for their initial visit!

Talk About Their Upcoming Appointment

One of the best ways to prepare your child is to start talking about their upcoming visit. This includes walking them through the routine cleaning and exam! You can also use “pretend” dental tools and play dentist with your child to help them feel more comfortable and have a positive outlook on the dentist before walking through the door.

Show Them Kids’ Cartoons & Videos About Dental Visits

Many kids’ shows have episodes about going to the dentist. Incorporating these into your child’s TV time can help show them that the dentist can be fun. When kids see their favorite characters visiting the dentist, they will most likely be excited to do it, too! For instance, the show, Peppa Pig, has a great episode about going to the dentist.

Get to the Appointment Earlier Than Usual

We ask that you bring any important information from your pediatrician if there is any information we need to know in order to provide more personalized care for your child. We recommend that you arrive at least 20-30 minutes before your child’s scheduled appointment time. This gives your child the opportunity to play off any nerves they may have in our kids’ play area. They’ll also have more time to interact with our team and get to know them a bit before their appointment.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask Questions
