Purpose of Tooth Fillings
No one wants to go the dentist and hear that they have a cavity, but if that happens to you, we can use a tooth filling to treat it. Fillings get their name because they fill in the area where there was decay or that bacteria has eaten away. We also sometimes use dental fillings to fix cracked, broken, or worn down teeth. Tooth fillings can be placed on both front and back teeth.
When we place a tooth filling, we’ll use a topical anesthetic to numb the area, remove any present decay, and then apply the filling. Before we send you on your way, we’ll make sure that your bite (the way your upper teeth align and fit with your lower teeth) looks good so you can continue to chew and put pressure on it like normal.
Types of Cavity Fillings
Cavity fillings can be made from many different materials. The two most common are amalgam fillings, which are the ones that look silver, and composite fillings, which are the ones that are tooth-colored and sometimes called white fillings. Amalgam fillings are made from a mix of various metals like mercury, silver, and tin. Composite fillings are made from composite resin.
Biocompatible, Composite Fillings
At Dental Solutions of Avon, we consider not just your oral health, but also your overall wellness when treating you. That’s why we choose to provide biocompatible, composite fillings. These fillings are non-toxic and don’t contain any potentially harmful materials like with silver and gold fillings. Not to mention, they are also natural looking so they blend in seamlessly with your tooth.
