The Sitaram Center for Implants & Oral Surgery is a distinct practice located inside the Dental Solutions of Columbus office. The practice is led by Dr. Gabriel Hostalet, a certified specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Our mission is excellence in the art and science of comprehensive implant dentistry and oral surgery. Our skilled, gentle staff offers exceptional, affordable care in a comfortable setting.
Meet Dr. Gabriel Hostalet
Dr. Gabriel Hostalet was raised in suburban Chicago. After graduating from high school, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, graduating in three years. Dr. Hostalet then achieved his DDS degree at UI's College of Dentistry in Chicago. During dental school, Dr. Hostalet was selected to participate in the Honors Program and to be inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society. Additionally, he received the Community Dentistry Award for charitable work performed during school, and the Daniel Seldin Award for excellence shown in the area of oral surgery. Dr. Hostalet graduated from dental school in 2000 with honors.
Following dental school, Dr. Hostalet completed a one-year General Practice Residency in New York before returning to the Midwest for a four-year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Indiana University Medical Center. During his final year of residency, Dr. Hostalet served as Chief Resident. He finished the program in 2005. Dr. Hostalet is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, as well as a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr. Hostalet chose to pursue a career in oral surgery because he saw it as a unique bridge between dentistry and medicine. He understands that dental care, oral surgery in particular, commonly causes patients to feel anxious. Knowing this, Dr. Hostalet and his patients appreciate that his training allows him to provide intravenous (IV) sedation to make oral surgery as comfortable as possible. Another aspect of oral surgery that Dr. Hostalet loves is the ability to help reconstruct people's smiles! Whether patients are missing teeth because of dental disease, cancer, injury, or any other reason, Dr. Hostalet knows it affects both health and self-esteem. He finds it extremely rewarding to participate in the process of giving people their smiles back. The science and art of oral surgery, especially implant dentistry, is ever-improving, so Dr. Hostalet takes Continuing Education very seriously in order to keep up with the latest advancements in his field.
Having grown up in the Chicago area, Dr. Hostalet is a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and continues to wait patiently for their return to the World Series. In addition to being a sports fan, he also enjoys playing sports, including golf. Dr. Hostalet's greatest passion and achievement is his family. He and his wife, Leah, are the proud parents of three lovely children, Sydney, Harrison, and Brady.

- Dental Implants
A dental implant is a small titanium post that can be placed in the upper or lower jaw to serve as a replacement for the root portion of a missing tooth. Because of the biocompatible properties of the titanium, a dental implant fuses with the bone to become a solid anchor for the replacement tooth that goes on top of it (called a dental implant restoration). Dental implants can be used as a solution for replacing single or multiple missing teeth, and for stabilizing dentures.

Several dental conditions may require the extraction (removal) of one or more teeth. Whether due to impacted wisdom teeth, or a dental emergency brought on by decay, trauma, or infection, a tooth extraction can bring immediate and needed pain relief! When you visit the Sitaram Center for Implants & Oral Surgery for an extraction, you can rest assured knowing Dr. Hostalet will take time to explain the treatment so you know what to expect. He will discuss with you why the procedure is necessary, what it will entail, and what will be done following the procedure to help you maintain a healthy, happy smile! Dr. Hostalet will also talk with you about your sedation options, because your comfort is very important to us.
Back to Top ↑ - Bone Grafts (Jaw Reconstruction)
There are a number of reasons why patients are referred to an oral and maxillofacial surgeon like Dr. Hostalet for a jaw bone graft, also called jaw reconstruction. The most common reason is to prepare and strengthen weakened bone in the jaw so it will be strong enough to receive a dental implant. If you've been missing a tooth for some time, or if you have had severe gum disease, your jaw bone in the affected area might (and likely will) have weakened. A jaw bone graft can replace missing bone and even stimulate new bone growth so your jaw will be able to support a dental implant.
Other reasons patients are referred to Dr. Hostalet for jaw bone grafts include dental trauma, the effects of disfiguring diseases such as cancer, and congenital conditions like cleft palate that need to be addressed.
Back to Top ↑ - Corrective Jaw (Orthognathic) Surgery
While bite, or "occlusion," problems can usually be corrected through general orthodontics, corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery) may be necessary for patients who have misaligned jaws. This condition typically occurs when the upper and lower jaws grow at different rates, although injuries and birth defects can also affect jaw alignment. Candidates for corrective jaw surgery usually experience difficulty chewing, speaking, and/or breathing as a result of their jaw misalignment. The corrective surgery moves the jaw into the appropriate position, which usually resolves these problems. While the surgery is performed primarily to correct functional issues, it often improves the patient's physical appearance, too.
If Dr. Hostalet thinks that corrective jaw surgery is appropriate for your situation, he will carefully review the treatment with you, from the planning stage to recovery. He wants you to feel informed and get your questions answered.

A broken jaw, or mandibular fracture, is a common facial injury. Such fractures are typically diagnosed at a hospital or urgent care center, and depending on the severity of the fracture, a patient may be referred to a maxillofacial surgeon. Restorative treatments range from altered diet and pain medication, to mouth wiring, to the surgical installation of plates across the fracture site.
On occasion, other facial bones may break or fracture, including the cheek and eye socket. As a certified specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Hostalet is fully trained and qualified to treat the range of facial fracture injuries.
Back to Top ↑ - Cyst & Tumor Removal from the Mouth & Jaws
There are numerous types of oral cysts and tumors, with most causing a lump in the mouth. Cysts are usually small, filled with fluid, and often painless. Although they can be cancerous (malignant), they usually are not. An oral tumor is a lump consisting of tissue cells, and it may or may not be painful. While tumors are more frequently cancerous than oral cysts, many oral tumors are also non-cancerous (benign).
If you think you might have an oral cyst or tumor, please have it examined by Dr. Hostalet or another certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon as soon as possible. If Dr. Hostalet identifies a cyst or oral tumor, he will typically perform a biopsy to determine the type (benign or malignant). Even if a cyst or tumor is not cancerous, Dr. Hostalet may recommend removal since cysts and tumors can interfere with teeth and bone structures, and since a non-cancerous cyst or tumor could possibly become cancerous later.

The GALILEOS 3D x-ray imaging system is making high-quality, 3D digital x-rays a reality for doctors and their patients. How? A digital x-ray scanner is mounted on a mechanical arm that rotates around a patient's head, projecting x-rays in a computer-controlled, cone-shaped beam. In a matter of seconds, all data images needed are collected after one complete pass of the scanner. The detailed images can then be called up on a computer screen in a variety of angles and views, including 2D, 3D, and panorama. This allows Dr. Hostalet to fully see the relationship between patients' teeth, bones, nerves, tissues, and airways like never before, making Dr. Hostalet exceptionally equipped for diagnostic and treatment planning decisions. We believe complete information is a vital component of comprehensive care!

If you feel anxious or even fearful about dental treatment, you are not alone. We want you to know that such feelings are common and people of any age can experience them. We also want you to know that we can help! We offer Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) to help patients relax. It is a sweet-smelling, colorless blend of gases that can create feelings of well-being and tranquility when inhaled. Some patients even describe a feeling of floating or giddiness, which is why it is called "laughing gas."
Oral Conscious Sedation, sometimes referred to as "relaxation dentistry," is another option we offer to help patients become as comfortable as possible through a simple pill. Some people mistakenly call it "sleep dentistry," but though patients feel very calm and relaxed during treatment, they are still awake and able to respond.
When needed, we also provide Intravenous (IV) Anesthesia. Before treatment, you will be given specific instructions for preparing for dental sedation.
